DAILY UI CHALLENGE

Every day, I complete a Daily UI challenge prompt to grow and hone my UI skills.  Challenges are timeboxed between 1-2 hours.  Check out some of my work!

DAILY UI 011

Prompt: Design a flash message

My Process: For this challenge, I designed the success/failure messages for the checkout process of a high-end beauty brand. I wanted to practice creating vector illustrations and using them functionally within a design.

Time: 3 hours (including vector art creation)

DAILY UI 010

Prompt: Design a social share feature.

My Process: So, I may have gone a little overboard for this challenge… I tried to think of what sorts of things people might actually want to share with friends or family. I thought it would be fun for a user to be able to share something they’d made. But what type of thing can the average user make? Then it hit me—Cher Horowitz’s outfit maker from Clueless. If it had been conceived of today, surely there would be a social share feature to show outfits to friends. I designed the basic interface for an updated version of this program, this time imagined as a desktop app, with social share prominently featured.

Time: 3 hours

DAILY UI 009

Prompt: Design a music player.

My Process: I wanted the visual design of this music player to feel expressive and creative to mimic the music played. I envision the background gradient colors changing depending on the album art while it animates in time with the music.

Time: 1 hour

DAILY UI 008

Prompt: Design a 404 page.

My Process: For this challenge, I designed a 404 page with a rather mysterious aesthetic. I made sure to include a button which directs the user back Home to hopefully minimize their frustration upon encountering this page.

Time: 2 hours

DAILY UI 006

Prompt: Design a user profile.

My Process: I continued the app idea developed for Daily UI 005 and created a user profile for the app BLOOM. The flowers at the top of the screen act as a progress indicator.  If a user has consistently checked off in the app that they’ve watered their plants, it will appear bright and full of flowers. If not, it will appear wilted and prompt the user to use the Watering Schedule feature.

Time: 2 hours

DAILY UI 005

Prompt: Design an app icon.

My Process: I designed an icon for an imaginary app for gardeners called BLOOM. I started by choosing a “B” which could be used as the stem of a flower while retaining its appearance as a letter. I then illustrated the flower blooming out of the top of the B, attempting to show the purpose of the app both typographically and pictorially.

Time: 1 hour

DAILY UI 003

Prompt: Design a landing page. It can be for a book, an album, a mobile app, a product, etc.

My Process: I chose to redesign the landing page for the Frida Kahlo Museum, housed in La Casa Azul (The Blue House), where Frida Kahlo once lived. I wanted the landing page to mimic the striking and distinctive look of the house—deep blue, textured walls with dusty red frames—and to emphasize the iconic presence of the artist. I used an image of Frida from the museum’s site as well as their current logo.

Time: 1 hour

DAILY UI 001

Prompt: Create a sign up page, modal, form, or app screen related to signing up for something.

My Process: For my first UI challenge, I decided to create two sign up screens for an imaginary meditation app. Through the color palette and imagery, I tried to transmit to the user the sense of relaxation and mindfullness they will access through the app.

Time: 1.5 hours
